A.R rahman- the younster who can do anything
By: sivakumar
AR. Rahman was born in
1966 as Dilip kumar . The maestro showed traits of his musical talents
at a very young age that his tender hands smoothed over the piano keys
at the age of four. He lost his father very early in life and the
burden of supporting his family fell on his little shoulders. Rahman
stepped into the music career as a keyboard player in the great music
director Illyaraja's troup. Rattled by fate's ill will his family was
helped by a Sufi saint spiritually that his family embraced Islam and
that is how Dilip Kumar turned out to be Allah Rakha Rahman that the
world now identifies him as.
He has also the credit
of accompanying Zahir Hussain and Kunnakudi Vaidiyanathan for their
concerts abroad. This earned him the scholarship at the Trinity college
at The Oxford University.
Rahman the started
composing for jingles. It was this that set the stage for his glorious
achievements as a film music director. The famous director Mani Rathnam
introduced him in his film 'Roja'.- Long Sentence Little need to be
mentioned about all his other works in the film industry as each and
every composition went about to enchant the ears of the music lovers.
He has a lot of awards to his credit including a couple of national
awards. Rahman is also the recipient of the 'Padma sri' award. His
career boasts of his working with many eminent personalities with in
India and the world outside. Long sentence
His "Vande Maatharam "
and " Jana Gana Mana" are patriotic albums celebrated with his music
among a huge load of albums that he composed.
Rahman's pace in his
musical career took a giant leap when he composed for "The Bombay
Dreams," a stage production of the famous musician Andrew Lloyd Webber
that served to be his debut in Hollywood.
AR . Rahman's New Endeavors
He has a trail of new
western commitments that are yet to add feathers to his cap. With the
western hands all about him is India missing out on his enchanting
music?.
Well, it is a pride for
the Indians about anfellow-Indian being one of the most sought out
Indian musicians in the west. But never- the- less amidst his western
commitments Rahman does continues to enthrall the Indian ears. Rang De
Basanti is one of his latest Bollywood movies that he has worked on.
'Jillunu Oru Kaadal' is a newly released Tamil movie with Rahman
scoring in music. He also has Mani Rathinam's 'Guru,' " 'Rockstar,'
'London Dreams' and'Chamki' to his credits.
It is said that at the
moment Rahman is involved with Shekar Kapur's 'Elizabeth -II' which is
a Hollywood work. "Listen" is another international commitment that is
aimed to raise huge funds for the benefit of the downtrodden
children.Rahman will have the credit of being the only Indian musician
involved in this project. Many NGOs will be the beneficiaries. The
highlighting significance of this project is the modified version of
Beethoven's Symphonies. Nonetheless it is a good blending of Vocation,
Art and Philanthropy.
Rahman may also conduct
the most famous "City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra" {CBSO) wherein
he is to conduct two concerts; one being his scores from his Indian
hits and the second will be based on the literary classic 'Conference
of the Birds' by the Persian poet Farid ud-DinAttar. The great classic
work is all about self- realization and the musician wants to work his
best after a deep scrutiny of the subject about the engrained divinity
in everyone. A man of few words, the stages that honored him so far
have always found him owing all the credit to God. It seems the
spiritual currents are pulling him as he has stated about the divine
call summoning him to do the Hajj, that has made him take up the trip
to the holy Mecca. Rahman has also stated that he was not aware of the
depth in the work 'Conference of the Birds' that carries the highest
truth of identifying the common essence of divinity in every being.
Rahman is also composing
about 15 songs for the Tolkein epic 'The Lord of the Rings'. He is to
involve the Finnish folk group called the Varttina and the Elvish
language invented by Tolkien for this project.. The songs will mainly
be in English. . Apart from this, Rahman has also assumed the role of
the brand ambassador for World Space that is the only satellite radio
station in India. For this he will be composing a song as a part of the
promotion.
Rahman is one among
those whom India will also be proud of. His music seems to continue to
enchant and his unborn achievements are yet to sing his laurels.
